College Football Betting: Three Things To Know Heading Into Week 10 of the 2022 Season

Well, not every frog you kiss turns into a prince. Or, as a friend of mine liked to say when he got drunk and found love with a girl that wasn’t the most attractive (but had a wonderful heart), you have to slay some dragons to find the princess.

Week 9 of college football was, to keep things simple, less than stellar. Nothing of much importance happened unless you count Sam Hartman plunging his draft stock into the depths of the ocean with a six-turnover quarter, or those guys from Michigan State trying to cause some brain damage in the tunnel after their loss to Michigan. But, even with a slow day for headlines, we all still had a blast watching some football and I made a boatload of money on my picks so there isn’t too much to complain about (no big deal, but I’m pretty awesome).

Now, let’s jump right in with three things to know!

1. The College Football Playoff Committee Is Drunk

Seriously, what the f**k is going on with those people? I know they want to drum up headlines and they’re desperate to push big name programs into the CFP to boost ratings, but the rankings they put out were so bad at the top I honestly thought they were doctored the first time I saw the graphic.

I could spend days badgering you with reasons why their order was stupid, but two issues seem so egregious that I’ll highlight them. First, there is not a single multiverse in which Ohio State has looked better than Georgia. The Buckeyes are great at blowing out teams late, but they’ve been in dog fights with Notre Dame, Penn State and even Iowa to some degree. That team should not be second and it’s absolutely laughable. On the other end, I haven’t got a clue how anyone believes Clemson should be ahead of Michigan. Sure, Clemson will inevitably steal a spot because they don't play anyone worth a damn and Michigan-OSU will settle that issue, but at no point has Clemson looked like anything resembling “impressive.”

If you’re going to pull together a bunch of idiots to make this ranking and get everything wrong, find people who are interesting and make a TV show out of it or something. Otherwise, I can do without the nonsense.

2. The Wheat Has Been Separated From The Chaff

By my (and anyone with half a brain’s) count, there are seven teams left fighting for a chance to make the CFP. Sure, that number could theoretically open up a bit since there are still a few games remaining between those seven, along with some other tough matchups, but the prevailing logic is that we’re left with just a handful of teams holding real title hopes.

And, if I’m being honest, this year projects to be a lot better than last year’s disaster. The 2021-2022 season presented us with a great story in UGA vs. Alabama in the fight for supremacy, but it made the semifinals largely irrelevant since no team was even in the same county as those two as far as quality. This year seems to have more parity. Aside from Clemson and TCU, all of the remaining teams are at least competent enough to put up a fight against the others, and nobody is so much better than the rest that it makes the exercise irrelevant. Hell, even the Tigers and Horned Frogs could step up and it wouldn't shock me.

After a year that lacked a level playing field, it’s nice to have a more even fight this time around. It should be fun to see how this shakes out.

3. Bad Undercard, Fantastic Prize Fight

Not to put a damper on anyone’s day, but the slate for week 10 isn’t exactly stellar. Sure, there are some a couple of interesting games, including LSU-Bama and even Clemson-ND (Where, and I cant believe I’m saying this, the Irish hopefully win to get Clemson out of my face), but overall I didn’t look at this slate and think all that much of it.

That said, the main event is worth the price of admission and then some. Georgia and Tennessee are clearly the two best teams in the country right now (despite what the buffoons running the show would tell you) and both teams' title hopes probably hinge on this game since the loser will almost certainly be out of the SEC title race. After so many years of SEC West dominance, it’s a bit shocking to have the SEC and national landscape hinge on the SEC East, especially since Florida isn't even involved, but that’s a very accurate depiction of where things are right now. This should be a fun one in Athens.
