College Football Betting: Three Things To Know Before Week 0, 2023
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOOTTTBALLLL?!?!?! Well, sort of. The term “Week 0” is a very appropriate one because this slate offers almost nothing as far as genuinely good games to watch. But you know what? It’s still football, and after 6+ months without the pigskin on our TV screens (if you count preseason NFL you need help) I would imagine that the number of people tuning in to watch Notre Dame play Navy (which, admittedly, is the “best” game) will be pretty fucking high.
And, just as I did last year, my role here will be to provide you all with a few big storylines to look out for both about the state of college football and how to attack things from a gambling standpoint. No time like the present, let's get after it.

Now, we know you probably already have an account with one of the leading sportsbooks here in the US, but it definitely pays to have more than one funded account when betting on sports.
Find out which books are best, who has the best new customer offer, and how you can secure better odds and lines for all of your bets, below.
1. Don't Be A Fool
It might sound crazy coming from a college football gambler who gives out picks, but there is a good chance I will bet on exactly 0 games this weekend. The reality is that finding an edge in these handful of games is a pretty tough endeavor, and there’s no shame in saying “I’ll keep my money in my pocket.”
The irony of successful sports gambling is that we want to keep the “gambling” to a minimum. As uncertainty rises your chances of finding a true edge decreases, and that will always play in the favor of the book who gets the benefit of the juice. I’m not saying you shouldn't bet at all, but throwing double-digit units down on 5+ games is probably a recipe for disaster.

2. Knowledge is Power
So if gambling isn't the smartest idea this week, what’s the best alternative? Use the opportunity to build up some knowledge. College football is often tougher to bet on because, unlike the NFL, there’s so much roster turnover and no clarity about how teams will play year to year.
It may not be a huge value add, but take some time to watch teams like Notre Dame, USC, and even Vanderbilt (purely because they play in the SEC, not because you should be betting on Vandy) to get a feel for how you can bet them later in the season. Seeing the Trojans stomp on SJSU might not be surprising, but you will catch glimpses of their strengths and weaknesses to use while analyzing later matchups

3. Build Some Good will
Last but not least, a practical piece of advice (I told you this article wouldn't be entirely helpful). Take the opportunity to “pass” on watching football all day and spend some time with your family/significant other/kids or even your pet iguana.
There will soon be Saturdays (and Sundays) filled with tons of games that you actually WANT to watch, and you’re better off holding onto some extra tokens now instead of spending 3 hours in front of UMass vs NMSU. Hell, get a few chores out of the way around the homestead and you’ll be set up for glory come the heart of the season.
With that, go forth and prosper! And, most importantly...WELCOME BACK FOOTBALL!
