College Football Bets: What You Need To Know Before Week 7, 2023

A couple of weeks ago, I titled one of my Three Things to Know for the week 'Don’t Screw Yourself'. The concept, simply, was that programs at the top of the rankings and with everything to lose were somehow still finding ways to shoot themselves in the face (see: ND 10 men on the field). In fact, I’ve referenced the idea that college football is littered with insane, bizarre, idiotic moments on a few occasions because, without fail, college football produces them.

And still, even with all of my foresight and knowledge to draw on, I was STILL left dumbfounded by Miami’s meltdown brought about by the decision not to kneel to end the game. It was like watching a mix of horror movie and Brothers Grimm cautionary tale, meant to scare you with the reality of insane stupidity leading to horrible consequences. To put it in modern terms, Miami decided to “fuck around and find out” in the worst way.

So, while CFB was filled with huge moments last week, I have found myself unable to shake the 40 seconds between 100% victory and Miami losing its undefeated record because a few VERY WELL PAID coaches don't understand basic logic or strategy or really anything at all. I truly cannot fathom the fact that any of them still have a job as I write this article.

With that, let’s look at next week I guess. I don't know. Nothing makes sense.

Before diving into Dimers' college football predictions or this week's best college football bets, you should know it definitely pays to have more than one funded US Sportsbook account when betting on sports.

For example, did you know that new users at bet365 can get $150 in bonus bets after betting just $5? That's easily one of the best promos to take advantage of when betting on football this season.

1. Who Wants A Challenge? (Nobody)

Of the top six teams in the current rankings, the best opponent anyone plays is…. Syracuse? Yes, the 4-2 Syracuse team whose best win is Purdue, tops the impressive list of opponents which includes Vanderbilt, Indiana, Purdue, UMass, and nobody (can’t blame OU for a bye week I guess). Teams have shown a propensity to get into trouble over the last couple of weeks, but it’s hard to imagine we learn much with that type of opposition.

On the other hand, the Pac 12 is prepping to blow the whole thing up, with Oregon traveling to Washington and USC finally playing a team with a pulse. Once again, the soon to be defunct conference brings a little bit of joy in dull times. We may get some things sorted out in the 7-15 range, but not much more.

2. Salvage the Season Or Scrap Everything

We’ve reached the point in the year where teams who had high hopes are realizing it just isn’t there year, in the sense that they’ve lost a game or two and, at best, may be playing for a spot in some New Years 6 Bowl that isnt actually important but we all pretend is important. Those include teams with decently tough matchups this week like LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami, and a few others.

The beauty of the impending playoff expansion is that these teams will have much more to play for long into the season in coming years. 4 spots is barely enough to fit all the top class teams, but 12 will give a ton of opportunities for programs to fight back from a slow start and sneak their way in. Sadly, that expansion doesnt happen until next year so we’ll be left wondering just how much fight some of these teams will have, but it’s something to look out for as we edge closer to November.

3. Survival of the Outsiders

Last but not least in this week’s trifecta of discussion points directed solely at the CFP, we have the surprising stragglers. As there is every year, a few teams have found themselves undefeated after five or six games and everyone is wondering “can these fuckers actually do it?” TCU was in that spot last year, and they stumbled their way into the National Championship game against all odds (including some impressively bad performances by opponents and a loss in the Big 12 Title game).

This year we’ve been graced with the likes of UNC and Louisville as the remaining long shots. There are 11 teams in the top 25 who have yet to lose with those two being the lowest ranked, and it will be interesting to see how far they make it on their push for unexpected glory. Louisville seems certain to keep things rolling against an inept Pitt side, while UNC have to face a tough test against… oh it’s just Miami. They have nothing to worry about against those idiots.
