College Football Betting: Three Things To Know Heading Into Week 13 of the 2022 Season

Well, that did not turn out as expected AT ALL. Here I was telling everyone that Week 12 was “for the gamblers” because the slate of football sucked, but the biggest blowout by a Top 5 team was UGA’s 10 point win over Kentucky (I refuse to acknowledge OSU’s 13 point win being a bigger victory considering they got that margin on a fumble to end the game with MD chasing).

And, even more unexpectedly, we got a couple of WILD finishes. I think TCU’s victory was probably the most fun to watch, with the Horned Frogs scoring a last second FG when it looked like they’d mismanaged the clock and wouldn't have time to get it off (shoutout to that kicker, his balls are still dragging on the floor), but Michigan winning on the back of some “generous” refereeing was a great moment for everyone who feels like college football is hopelessly biased or even complicit in pushing big programs forward (in this case, I think Big 10 is just riddled with terrible officials but the point has some merit).

So where do we go from here? Well, we try to figure out one last week of regular season games before we jump into conference titles and bowl season in what is setting up to be a pretty exciting end of season. I’m ready for it, and I’ll give you a few things to know so you can be too.

1. Finish the Job

On the back of that intro, I think the most important and obvious part of football for teams to focus on is the “winning” part. Sure, you may be worried about style points or potential matchups in future games, but beating the team on the field with you RIGHT NOW is far more important than any hypothetical scenarios (just ask Tennessee).

The top teams have games ranging anywhere from “playing each other” to “is Georgia Tech even a football team?” as far as difficulty, but no matter what there is only one team you can beat this week. Go out and do that first, and leave all the nonsense to people like me (and god, do I love nonsense).

2. Once again, the Big 10 Season Starts and Ends in the Final Week

As far as important games go, nothing compares to Michigan vs Ohio State for the battle to determine the Big 10. Sure, USC vs ND is a fun matchup and could actually be a tough game, but it has nothing on these Midwestern rivals who seem to inevitably end up in this situation year after year…

Which begs the question: is there potentially a better way to do this? Michigan and OSU inevitably end up with no competition in the Big 10 and play soft out of conference schedules allowing them to make it through to this game with everything on the line. It’s fun, but maybe it’s time to mix things up a bit. I suppose the fact that all the other programs in their conference are garbage can’t really be blamed on them, but variety is the spice of life (so they tell me) and things are tasting pretty bland around here.

3. The Last Full Slate is the Last Chance for Big Profit

Enjoy it while you can, because this is the last time you’ll have an opportunity to “bet big” on college football. Sure, there is a decent number of conference championships next week but the overall volume of games will decrease and that leaves you with way less opportunity to find value.

And don't get me started on the absolute clusterfuck that is college football bowl season. Inevitably I’ll find myself wading into those waters to try my hand at solving the puzzle of who the hell cares and which players will even play, but it’s a dangerous game to get involved in and liable to burn you. So, as I said, enjoy this last week and make the most of it. You wont have another chance to gamble on CFB like this until next September.
