BYU vs. Oregon Best Bets, Predictions and Analysis
Spread Breakdown
Oregon got stomped by the Georgia Bulldogs, the defending national champions, in its first game of the year, but the team responded with a 70-14 victory over Eastern Washington. It's almost more difficult to gauge how good this Ducks team is now, but we do know how good the Cougars are and that's what makes it hard not to go BYU +3.5 here.
Last week, the Cougars earned a win over a Bears team that is better than last year's Big 12 champion team, on paper. Baylor has an improved passing game with Blake Shapen under center, but BYU was able to do a nice job of keeping the Bears offense from finding any sustained success. And all things considered, Kalani Sitake's team outplayed its opponent for a majority of that game — and had multiple chances to win before double overtime, but the Cougars kicker let the squad down.
MORE: CFB Futures Probabilities
Oregon is a team that wants to be a defense-first group, as head coach Dan Lanning is the former Georgia defensive coordinator. The Ducks will, however, need some time to bring in the right kinds of players to see out his vision, and whether or not the offense is explosive enough to overcome that is a difficult question to answer. The team put up a big number against Eastern Washington last week, but that is an FCS school and it would have been embarrassing if Oregon didn't go crazy in that game.
This BYU defense is something else and Bo Nix is going to be a hard quarterback for Ducks bettors to trust in a big spot. He never lived up to expectations in the SEC and this Cougars defense looks like one that deserves to be in that conference.
As for the BYU offense, the group should look really good against this Oregon team. Jaren Hall is one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation, and his arsenal was on full display in the win over Baylor. Against a team with a worse defense, he should be even better this week. And overall, his presence is what makes it hard to believe the Cougars will end up losing this game at all. That's why we like them on the spread, but we'd also sprinkle the moneyline.

Over/Under Breakdown
While the BYU defense should be the reason this team ultimately wins this game, it won't be without some hiccups. Oregon should be able to turn in some successful drives, especially with this being a home game. And for as good as the Cougars are, the Ducks will be able to match them in size and athleticism. That's just some of what comes with being a big Power 5 program, and for that reason we can see Oregon finding some success running the football.
If the Ducks can run successfully throughout this game, Nix's job will be a lot easier and they'll end up finding the end zone a bit here. If they can't, they have some serious problems looking towards the rest of the season.

It also helps that the Cougars want to play fast on offense. They'll handle their business and then it'll put some pressure on the Ducks to throw a bit more. That's always what you want as an Over bettor.
The Over also happens to be 5-2 in the last seven games that BYU has played, with a lot of that having to do with just how explosive this offense has become. The Over is also 5-2 in the last seven games that the Ducks have played against teams with winning records.
Best Bet: Cougars vs. Ducks
The Cougars went deep into the night to win their game last week, so there will be some concerns about an emotional letdown — or just physical fatigue — here. But BYU is a well-coached program and has lofty expectations this season. This group can't afford to slip up here and it should know that. Look for the experienced and underrated Cougars to handle their business in a tough road game.
We strongly suggest taking this with the DraftKings bet $5 to get $200 offer mentioned at the top of this article because, even if BYU doesn't cover, new customers still get $200 just for joining and betting at least $5 on the game. You can claim it ➡️ here ⬅️.
