College Basketball Best Bets for Tuesday, January 10

St. John's Red Storm vs. Butler Bulldogs - 6:30PM ET

Neither of these two teams have been their best as of late, but this line seems a bit deflated for St. John's, who has lost five consecutive games heading into this contest. But a closer look into those results leads me to believe we shouldn't give up on the Johnnies. They lost at home to Xavier and Marquette, plus three losses on the road at Villanova, Seton Hall and Providence. Even with the cold spell, they have been very good at home against average teams - they are 8-0 on the season at home against teams outside of the KenPom top 20.

Butler is just 1-5 against top 100 teams away from home. They are 0-3 in true road games in this category and just lost by 25 points at Seton Hall. The Bulldogs haven't beaten a top 100 team since December 6th, when they beat Yale at home. There's not much to like about Thad Matta's Bulldogs this year, and we like St. John's to get an emotional win and cover.

BET: St. John's -3 (-110) at DraftKings Sportsbook

LSU Tigers vs. Florida Gators - 7:00PM ET

This is a good "buy low" spot for LSU after last week's back to back losses at Kentucky and at Texas A&M. They nearly knocked off Kentucky, losing by just three points in Rupp Arena. The Tigers are 9-0 at home this season with a great win over Arkansas. KenPom likes the Tigers as small favorites here, and we agree.

The main reason we like this spot is we are always ready to fade Todd Golden's Florida Gators. They have zero wins against KenPom top 80 teams on the season, and their offense is really struggling. We don't expect them to escape with a win in a tough road environment.

BET: LSU +2 (-110) at DraftKings Sportsbook

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Illinois Fighting Illini - 9:00PM ET

Nebraska has been very very good at home this season, with a 6-1 record in Pinnacle Bank Arena, with the only loss being a three point loss in overtime to the #1 team in the country, Purdue. Fred Hoiberg's tea, has shown an ability to beat talented opponents, with a blowout win at Creighton under their belt as well. The home arena will be rocking and we expect Nebraska to play well.

Illinois on the other hand? The Illini are 0-2 in true road games with losses to Maryland and Northwestern. In their last eight games, Illinois has alternated wins and losses. They are coming off a win against Wisconsin (without their best player Tyler Wahl), and if the pattern continues this one looks like a loss. Since Illinois' win against Texas a month ago, they are playing like the 134th best team in the country on Torvik, 30 spots lower that Nebraska in that same span.

BET: Nebraska +3.5 (-110) at DraftKings Sportsbook
