College Basketball Best Bets for Thursday, November 17

VCU Rams vs. Pittsburgh Panthers - 7:00PM ET

VCU let one slip last night against Arizona State, after leading by 11 points with eight minutes left to play, the Sun Devils methodically stormed back to steal the game late. VCU greatly missed their best guard Ace Baldwin, who was ruled out last minute due to a wrist injury.

Baldwin's status remains up in the air, but VCU has enough to win this one without him against a Pittsburgh team whose identity is built on losing ugly. Pitt is coming off back to back losses by 25 points or more to West Virginia and Michigan.  There are some similarities between West Virginia and this VCU team - most notably the high pressure defense both programs are known for. We don't expect Pitt to hang around for long in this one.

Davidson Wildcats vs. College of Charleston Cougars - 7:00PM ET

Davidson faces off with Charleston in a true road game, as the Charleston Classic is played on-site in the Cougars' home arena. Charleston's most impressive result this season was hanging with the preseason #1 team in the country North Carolina Tar Heels, as the Cougars took a seven-point lead into halftime before losing 102-86.

The biggest reason they couldn't hang on in that one was defense, they gave up 59 points to UNC in just the 2nd half alone. Charleston's defense is ranked 266th in the country, and Davidson's high-powered offense is a horrible matchup for them. Led by Foster Loyer, who is averaging a whopping 28.3 points and 5.7 assists per game, we expect the Wildcats to cruise here.

Michigan Wolverines vs. Arizona State Sun Devils - 9:30PM ET

Michigan passed it's first test in this event against Pitt last night with flying colors, as the Wolverines opened up a big lead late and earned a blowout victory. Tonight's game will be an interesting one - as Arizona State's leading scorer Frankie Collins transferred out of Michigan last season, after Michigan opted to bring in transfer point guard Jaelin Llewellyn to replace Collins this offseason.

While Collins is a capable scorer, he may try to do too much in this spot. We just saw Emoni Bates take over single-handedly against Michigan last week, and Collins will do his best Bates impersonation in this one. Unfortunately, we don't think that bodes well for the Sun Devils. Take Michigan big in this one.
