Carolina Panthers Running Back D’Onta Foreman a Safe Bet to Make in Week 9

Amidst all of the (deserved) praise showered upon Christian McCaffrey since his trade from the Panthers to the 49ers a couple of weeks back, there has been another big winner from the blockbuster exchange that is currently flying under the radar of bettors down in Charlotte who goes by the name of D'Onta Foreman.

But if you look at what the running back has achieved over the past two weeks, you'll see why he's a must-bet proposition today when the Panthers face Joe Burrow and the Bengals in Cincinnati.

D'Onta Foreman Is the Undisputed RB1 in Carolina

When the struggling Panthers dealt their best player in Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco in the days leading up to the NFL trade deadline, much was made of the predicament that the team sitting in last place of the NFC South found themselves in, particularly at the running back position.

Immediately after the trade, interim Panthers HC Steve Wilks told the media that the organization would be taking a "by committee" approach to the position, with reps shared jointly by Foreman as well as second year man, Chuba Hubbard.

While Hubbard was able to get some carries in Carolina's shock Week 7 win over the Buccaneers, it was Foreman who commanded the lion's share, getting 16 carries and racking up 118 yards to stake his claim for a larger role in the weeks to come.

That happened immediately, with Hubbard missing Week 8's thrilling game against the Falcons, leaving RB1 duties solely for Foreman. The man who played his college ball in Texas capitalized with an epic performance, scoring three touchdowns as well as clocking 118 yards on the ground for the second straight week. Hubbard will again be missing in today's Week 9 game against the Bengals, meaning Foreman will be in line for another hefty dose of the pigskin.

This Is No Fluke for Foreman

While Foreman's recent hot streak may be flying under the radar of a lot of football fans and bettors, this should come as no surprise to astute eyes who have been keeping tabs on the 26-year-old's career.

Foreman was last year at the Tennessee Titans, where he played second fiddle to one of the league's best runners in Derrick Henry. Foreman's opportunities did come throughout the season, however, filling in for Henry on several occasions when the star RB was down with injury. During the 2021 season, Foreman hit the magical 100 rushing yards number three times.

When he is given a large workload, the man has rarely disappointed. In fact, in six career games where he's had 15 carries or more, all of which coming over the course of this season and last, Foreman has hit 100 yards in five of those games:

D'Onta Foreman's Prop History 2022 (Min 15+ Carries)

  • Week 7 vs. Buccaneers: 15 carries, 118 yards
  • Week 8 vs. Falcons: 26 carries, 118 yards, 3 touchdowns

D'Onta Foreman's Prop History 2021 (Min 15+ Carries)

  • Week 12 vs. Patriots: 19 carries, 109 yards
  • Week 15 vs. Steelers: 22 carries, 108 yards
  • Week 17 vs. Dolphins: 26 carries, 132 yards
  • Week 18 vs. Texans: 21 carries, 69 yards

How to Bet D’Onta Foreman Today

Carolina are matched up today against the Cincinnati Bengals. While the Bengals are heavily favored by the sportsbooks to win the game, historically they've had a hard time defending against the run of their opponents this season, ranking in the bottom 10 in the NFL for opponent rushing yards per game, allowing an average of 125.6 yards.

We know that due to the lack of depth that the Panthers have in the running back room, as well as the scintillating form of Foreman, that the former third round draft pick is going to command a large amount of carries once again.

With our DimersBOT predictive analytics model projecting a total of 73 yards for Foreman, we recommend betting D'Onta Foreman over 70.5 rushing yards. The best place to make this bet is with DraftKings Sportsbook at odds of -125. DraftKings are also offering +4000 odds on any NFL team on the moneyline today, which is a great opportunity to build some bankroll.

For those bettors hoping that the in-form running back will continue his touchdown scoring ways, our DimersBOT model gives Foreman a 50.5% chance of scoring a touchdown. Various sportsbooks are offering plus money odds on Foreman to score, with DraftKings again offering the best odds at +130, making that a significant edge on our projections against the sportsbook.

Finally, with five out of six games throughout Foreman's career with 15 or more carries resulting in a return of more than 100+ yards, bettors may also be tempted by putting Foreman into a ladder play, sprinkling a small stake on multiple rushing yard props. This comes with added risk, but it really does feel like the sky is the limit right now.
