The Big 12 was one of the most entertaining conferences in college football last season, and we don't expect it to be any less competitive heading into 2023. As realignment erupts across the country, CFB fans will be treated to at least one more highly exciting season in the Big 12, with rivals Texas and Oklahoma holding serve before heading to the SEC in 2025.

For now, Texas is the presumed favorite, as quarterback Quinn Ewers returns to lead an offense that went toe-to-toe with Alabama last season. Outside of the Longhorns, TCU will look for magic to strike twice and defend their magical run to the national championship (just forget about what happened when they got there). Kansas State has plenty of talent to backfill, and Oklahoma will look to do a complete turnaround after a miserable season last year. So where's the value? Let's dive in.

Contenders: Texas, Oklahoma

Unlike the Big Ten, which offers two divisions and multiple routes to a championship, the Big 12 runs through the two biggest brands - if they're good. We are expecting both to be this season, and our model reflects that. While there are some potential cinderella teams with longer odds, there's only two teams that have significant chances of winning the league according to DimersBOT.

It starts with Texas, where the Longhorns hold the rights to the most talented team in the Big 12. Steve Sarkisian is hoping to lead a program to exceeding their expectations for the first time in years, and there's reason to believe this could be the season. Texas returns 15 starters, including rocket-armed Quinn Ewers, and one of the country's best offensive line units with a bevy of talented stars at receiver. The biggest question mark will be running back - where the Longhorns have to replace Bijan Robinson who truly was a generational athlete at the position. They'll need to take a jump without him to win Texas' first conference title since 2009.

Nipping at their heels is their arch-rival Oklahoma Sooners, who are coming off of their own disappointing season at 6-7 last year. Brett Venables enters Year 2 of his reign, and he gets a boost with his quarterback Dillon Gabriel returning to captain an offense that scored an impressive 30 points per game last season, even with the losing record. Oklahoma knew they needed to address their defense, and they did so through the transfer portal, adding linebacker Dasan McCullough from Indiana, where he was a freshman All-American. Venables is buying that his defense has improved, telling reporters they will be "on another planet" this season.

DimersBOT marks Texas as the favorite, with a 43.7% probability to win the league, but that doesn't mean it's the best value, as this percentage actually implies a massive negative 17% edge. The better bet is the Sooners, who hold strong at second-most likely with a 19.3% chance to win the Big 12, which is one of the best value bets you can before the season begins.

Sleeper Pick: Kansas State

Many people probably expect the sleeper pick to be TCU, who made it all the way to the national championship last season. But the Horned Frogs have to replace star quarterback Max Duggan, and DimersBOT doesn't see a path where they return as Big 12 champs. While TCU only has a 4.8% probability, the best underdog to bet is Kansas State, where the Wildcats have a 13.2% probability to win the conference. Quarterback Will Howard is back and poised to make an incredible leap in Manhattan.
