Bettor wins $9,420 with Six-Leg Parlay Predicting First Round of NBA Playoffs
At Dimers, there’s nothing we love more than winning tickets, especially when those tickets are longshot parlays. With the NBA Playoffs now in the second round, one lucky bettor was able to cash in a monster +18739 first-round predictions ticket to cash in $9,420 on a $50 wager. By correctly selecting the winner of six of the first-round series, including two exact series score results, this bettor hit the type of parlay every recreational gambler hops to hit.
How Bettor Won $9,420 on NBA First Round Parlay
Leaving out the Denver Nuggets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat series from the betslip, this bettor accurately picked the result for each of the other six first-round playoff series. They likely left out those two given that the No. 1 seeds, Denver and Milwaukee, were so heavily favored. It wasn’t worth the risk for a smaller odds increase.

Even more impressive, they were savvy enough to include the Sixers' 4-0 sweep of the Nets and the Celtics' 4-2 series victory over the Hawks as two exact results in the parlay, generating an even bigger payout than just picking the two heavy favorites in those series.
They managed to cash this parlay on FanDuel, and if you don’t have an account at either there or DraftKings, be sure to sign up at both and score $150 in bonus bets for placing just a $5 wager.
Let’s look at exactly how this parlay came together in the first round:
- 76ers sweep Nets
- Suns beat Clippers
- Knicks beat Cavaliers
- Celtics beat Hawks 4-2
- Lakers beat Grizzlies
- Warriors beat Kings
Leg 1 – Philadelphia 76ers to sweep Brooklyn Nets (+270)
Well, this was pretty much a no-sweat bet. The Sixers took commanding control of the series from the jump, the Sixers took care of business with the shortest and first leg off the board.
Games 3 and 4 were close, and Philly had to close it out without star Joel Embiid, who remains questionable for the start of round 2 with the Celtics. The Sixers were able to overcome his absence, however, and cash the leg with a Game 4 win.
Leg 2 – Phoenix Suns to beat Los Angeles Clippers (-500)
At – 500, this was more of an odds-padding leg than anything, but was about as safe as one can get, for two teams heading in opposite directions; the suns getting healthy and full-strength, while the Clippers were down Paul George.
The Clippers stole Game 1 in Phoenix, but at a cost, as Kawhi Leonard suffered a knee sprain that would knock him out of Games 3, 4 and 5, in which the Suns handled the depleted Los Angeles squad easily and closed the door in five games.

Leg 3 – New York Knicks to beat Cleveland Cavaliers (+172)
Here’s where things start to get really fun. The first underdog pick of the parlay, this leg required some faith as it required the Knicks to win their first playoff series since 2013. The Cavaliers made it look like it’d be a closely contested series with a 17-point Game 2 win to even it one game apiece, but quickly dismantled over the course of the final three games, failing to eclipse 100 points in any game but their lone victory.
Leg 4 – Boston Celtics beat Atlanta Hawks in six (+420)
The longest odds of any leg in the parlay, this is easily the most impressive call. The Celtics had the second-shortest odds to win the NBA title heading into the playoffs, behind only the Milwaukee Bucks. This bettor accurately predicted the Celtics dropping two games to Atlanta, before closing it out.
It came with a sweat, too. Boston took a 3-1 series lead and had the opportunity to close things out with a homecourt victory in TD Garden. The gambling gods showered some of their luck onto the hardwood, and Trae Young hit an ice-cold game-winning three-pointer to force Game 6 and keep the parlay alive.

Leg 5 – Los Angeles Lakers to beat Memphis Grizzlies (+120)
The second “upset” to cash in the parlay. Yes, the Lakers were (slight) underdogs in the series, but there’s a reason seven-seeded Los Angeles who had to survive the play-in tournament were just +120 to advance against the second-seeded Grizzlies. And the answer is LeBron James.
The Grizzlies made it semi-competitive, but once Dillon Brooks became Lance Stephenson 2.0, you knew it was over for Memphis, despite their best efforts by forcing the series to a Game 6, which they proceeded to lose by 40.
Leg 6 – Golden State Warriors to beat Sacramento Kings (-275)
The final leg also proved to be the biggest sweat and took the most unlikely path to get there. Though they’ve shown cracks even at full strength this year, the Warriors were heavily favored over the higher-seeded Kings in Round 1. The veteran experience was too much for the books to look past, and they were almost completely wrong.
Sacramento stormed out to a 2-0 series lead, putting the Warriors in uncharted waters. Golden State leaned on their veterans and captured the next three games, before losing to Sacramento in a Game 6 in which they looked completely outmatched.
The Kings held a 58-56 halftime lead in Game 7. Then Steph Curry happened. The original Splash Brother went berserk, scoring 50…FIFTY POINTS…the first such performance in a Game 7, to slam the door shut on the Kings with a 20-point victory and ensure the only beam lighting that night was the smile across this ecstatic bettor’s face.
There you have it, the thrilling path from $50 to $9,419.20. Six legs to cash a +18739 parlay. Absolutely awesome. It even inspired us to cook up a little one of our own for Round 2.
It’s not quite as thrilling as a +18739 winner, but we’ve used our cutting-edge A.I. model to make our selections. It’s got upsets and probably sweats, what more could you ask for?
