Betting Preview for the 2022 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix
Formula 1 is back in Hungary at the Hungaroring in Mogyoród, Hungary for the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix, the last event on the racing calendar before summer break.
Dimers.com F1 expert Chris Herzig takes a closer look the best bets in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Hungarian F1 Grand Prix Best Bets 2022
The Hungarian Grand Prix takes place again at Hungaroring, a twisty, technical track with many 180-degree corners and few overtaking zones, which makes positioning from qualifying all the more critical.
Last year, turn one on the first lap created havoc for many of the top drivers. Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas all crashed on it. Only Lewis Hamilton was able to escape the mayhem, all because he was on the pole, watching the wreckage through the rear-view mirror.
This year, the Ferraris have had dominant speed in the corners and you should expect them to set the pace the entire weekend. It's no surprise then that Leclerc comes in as a near co-favorite with Verstappen at +130 after he was the fastest driver last week in France before a solo crash knocked him out of the race. But it's Carlos Sainz (+550) who was most impressive in the French Grand Prix. Starting in last, Sainz passed all but four in the field to finish a very respectable, and impressive, fifth.

This makes Sainz a good bet to finish on the podium this weekend in Budapest.
Team Red Bull and Verstappen are in the lead on points coming into the race after Verstappen took another checkered flag last week. Expect Verstappen to be at, or near, the front, but I believe the technical aspects of this track, with its many corners, give Ferrari's cars an edge.
Perez, at +1300, is a good long shot bet to make some big money.
Mercedes has shown consistency getting on the podium recently but have not quite been fast enough to win. Is this their weekend to get their first win?

Two factors may help Mercedes in their quest:
1) A crash or mishap that takes out Ferrari and/or Red Bull cars.
2) Rain. Rain is in the forecast for this weekend in Budapest and may cause difficulty in qualifying on Saturday. If Mercedes drivers, Hamilton and George Russell, can somehow get on the front row for the start of the race, that's their best bet at pulling off their first win of 2022. Hamilton at +1200 and Russell at +2500 are good long shot bets, especially if it's raining.
PICKS: Sainz (+550) and Hamilton (+1200) to podium.
