Game 5: New York Rangers vs. Carolina Hurricanes

Eastern Conference Semifinal

Thursday May 26, 2022 7PM ET

Why the favorite Hurricanes will cover the spread

Home sweet home for the Carolina Hurricanes in these 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs has boded very well for them. They are 6-0 at home during the postseason and Carolina has covered the spread in four of those games. Players like Sebastian Aho, Teuvo Teravainen, and Andrei Svechnikov seem to play better at home.

The Hurricanes feel like home ice is their safe space and feel like they can do no wrong because of how great their home crowd is. Antti Raanta is much better at home in net than he is on the road.

Why the underdog Rangers will cover the spread

Carolina has not covered the spread in three-of-the-four games in this series. The Hurricanes only covered the spread in Game 2, where they won 2-0.

Carolina appears to run out of luck at home and the New York Rangers star players have finally awoken from their naps like Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Adam Fox, and Artemi Panarin.

The Carolina Hurricanes are also not getting bodies in front of the net on Igor Shesterkin like the Pittsburgh Penguins did in Round One. Carolina needs to get more grittier and they have not done that.

DimersBOT Prediction: Rangers to cover +1.5 goals (65% probability) 🔥

Why Rangers vs. Hurricanes will go Over 5.5 Total Goals

The Carolina Hurricanes are due for an offensive outburst in this series. In all four games in this series, Carolina has scored two goals or fewer. New York has scored seven goals in the last two games and the Rangers offense decides to finally show up on the road.

Why Rangers vs. Hurricanes will stay Under 5.5 Total Goals

Every single game in this series so far has reached the under goals total. Igor Shesterkin and Antti Raanta have both been fairly good in this series. The scoring chances for both teams are not very dangerous.

DimersBOT Prediction: Under 5.5 goals (52% probability)

The X-Factor: Sebastian Aho, C, Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes are 2-0 this series when Sebastion Aho scores a goal and they are 0-2 when he doesn’t. In 11 games this postseason, he has scored four goals and has recorded five assists. His plus/minus rating is 2.

Aho scored 37 goals and recorded 44 assists, in 19 games during the regular season. His plus/minus rating was 18. Sebastian Aho is probably the most offensive player on this hockey team.

If he scores a goal that means the Carolina Hurricanes will probably be leading this series 3-2 over the New York Rangers possibly.
