Game 5: Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New York Rangers

Eastern Conference Finals

Thursday June 9, 2022 8PM ET

Why the favorite Lightning will cover the puck line

The Tampa Bay Lightning have had success on the road this postseason, but it has not been in this series yet. Tampa Bay is 10-0 this postseason when Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov have at least one point in the same game. Stamkos and Kucherov have scored seven goals this postseason.

Brayden Point appears to be close returning from injury and Andrei Vasilevskiy has been much better than last two games for this hockey team.

Why the underdog Rangers will cover the puck line

The New York Rangers have only lost once at home during the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. New York’s last loss at home was in Game 1 of the first-round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in triple overtime. Chris Kreider has recorded at least one point in the last six games played.

Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad play much better at home. Artemi Panarin has six goals this postseason and maybe starting to heat up for this hockey team. Igor Shesterkin has been much better in net lately.

Why Lightning vs. Rangers will go Over 5.5 Total Goals

The only time the over has hit in this series was back in Game 1 when the New York Rangers won 6-2 over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Game 5 feels like it is going to be one of those games where there will be goals all over the place.

DimersBOT Prediction: Over 5.5 goals (51% probability)

Why Hurricanes vs. Rangers will stay Under 5.5 Total Goals

The last three games of this series have gone under 5.5 total goals and all of those games have five goals total. It feels like this trend will continue in Game 5, but hey you never know. Tampa Bay has played in a lot of gritty games on the road this postseason and New York has not at home.

The X-Factor: Kaapo Kakko, RW, New York Rangers

The New York Rangers are 2-0 this series when Kaapo Kakko records at least one point and they are 0-2 when he doesn’t. The kids line disappeared in Tampa Bay and they need to reappear in New York. Kakko has only scored two goals and recorded three assists, in 18 postseason games, with a plus/minus rating of 2.

In 43 regular-season games, Kaapo Kakko scored seven goals and recorded 11 assists, with a plus/minus rating of 9. Kakko needs to be effective in the game.

If he is not effective in Game 5, they could be trailing 3-2 in the series and be facing elimination once again in the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.
