Game 5: St. Louis Blues vs. Colorado Avalanche

Western Conference Semifinal

Wednesday May 25, 2022 8PM ET

Why the favorite Avalanche will cover the puck line

The Avalanche (-1.5) has covered the spread in three-of-four games in this series. Colorado appears to be the more superior team offensively than the Blues. The Avalanche scored four goals in a span of fewer than five minutes.

Nathan MacKinnon has been very quiet in this series and he is due to get back on the score sheet again. Depth players continue to make an impact and defensemen continue to score goals like Devon Toews and Erik Johnson.

Cale Makar has recorded nine assists so far this postseason. The Colorado Avalanche was 22-19 at home during the regular season against the spread.

Why the underdog Blues will cover the puck line

The Blues (+1.5) decide to muddy it up like they did in Game 2 and get much better goaltending from Ville Husso.

St. Louis’s record against the spread during the regular season was 25-16. The Blues are also one of the better road teams in the NHL and have a 3-2 record on the road during the 2022 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

David Perron leads the team with nine goals. He continues to go on a hot streak and keep them alive for another day.

DimersBOT Prediction: Blues to cover (58% probability)

Why Game 5 of Blues vs. Avalanche will go Over 6.5 Total Goals

The over has hit in the last two games in St. Louis with a total of seven goals in Game 3 and nine goals in Game 4. Ville Husso has not been as good in the net as Jordan Binnington was for the St. Louis Blues at the start of this series.

Darcy Kuemper has had a fair share of struggles also in this series, but the Colorado Avalanche can score goals in spurts.

Why Game 5 of Blues vs. Avalanche will stay Under 6.5 Total Goals

The first two games of this series were played in Denver, Colorado, and the under-hit in both of those games. Five goals were scored in Game 1 and five goals were also scored in Game 2.

The first three-of-four home goals for the Colorado Avalanche have reached the under 6.5 total goals scored. It hit back in Game 1 of the Nashville Predators series with nine total goals, but Game 2 only had three total goals scored.

Ville Husso decides to stop every shot as he did in Game 1 of the Minnesota Wild series for the St. Louis Blues and Darcy Kuemper is on his game for the Colorado Avalanche.

The X-Factor: Nathan MacKinnon, C, Colorado Avalanche

Nathan MacKinnon had his fingerprints all over the ice for the Colorado Avalanche in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Nashville Predators.

MacKinnon has been fairly quiet against the St. Louis Blues in this series and has helped major help step up. Nathan MacKinnon needs to show the killer instinct in Game 5 and get this series done and over with.

In eight playoff games so far, he has scored five goals and has recorded four assists.

His plus/minus rating is 9. In 65 games during the regular season, he scored 32 goals and recorded 56 assists, with a plus/minus rating of 22.

If Nathan MacKinnon dominates Game 5 for the Colorado Avalanche against the St. Louis Blues, there will be a handshake line after the game.
