Why LeBron James Will Go Over 7.5 Rebounds vs. Pacers
On Tuesday, LeBron had 28 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in a win over the New York Knicks. The King has now gone Over the 7.5-rebound mark in 14 of his last 17 games, according to our NBA Trends page, and he's averaging 9.4 rebounds per game in the month of January.
LeBron just seems to be a lot more engaged recently, which isn't all that surprising when you factor in that Anthony Davis is back and Los Angeles is now capable of making some noise. The 38-year-old is also chasing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's scoring record, so he knows he has a lot of eyes on him.
LeBron is looking to put on a show on a nightly basis, and he knows he can do so while continuing to play his game. That means leaning more towards playing for triple-doubles and helping his team win games, rather than strictly addressing scoring. That place in history as the all-time leading scorer will come sooner rather than later, but LeBron knows he's going to break it eventually. The more important thing is helping his team get back in the mix in the Western Conference playoff picture, and that means doing some dirty work.
In our model's 10,000 simulations of tonight's Lakers-Pacers game, LeBron averaged 10.1 rebounds per game. That's good for an edge of 11.9%, which is the highest edge we have this evening. A lot of that has to do with LeBron's ability as a rebounder, but he's also facing an opponent that should make it easy on him.
This season, Indiana is giving up 45.5 rebounds per game to opponents, which is the fifth-highest mark in all of basketball. When you throw in the fact that these are two of the five fastest teams in the league in terms of pace of play, it's hard to see LeBron not coming away with at least eight boards. There will be a lot of shots taken in this game, and LeBron is going to have opportunities to come down with a lot of misses.
