Best NBA Bets Today

Atlanta Hawks vs. Detroit Pistons, 7:00PM ET

These have been two of the worst teams in the league on the defensive end to start the year, with Atlanta ranking 26th in defensive rating and Detroit being only a bit better at 24th. With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising if this ended up being an extremely high-scoring game, which is why we're playing the Over — even if the number is a little higher than we'd like.

This should be a game in which all of the talented ball handlers — Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey — show out. The Over is actually 3-1 in the games that the Pistons have played this season, and even their meeting with the Pacers that went Under finished with 219 total points — falling just short of the 221 total.

We just don't see this Detroit defense finding ways to slow Atlanta down, and the Pistons should also be able to find some success against the Hawks defense. They're especially weak on the perimeter.

San Antonio Spurs vs. Minnesota Timberwolves, 8:00PM ET

The Timberwolves are coming off an 11-point home loss against this same Spurs team on Monday, so we know for a fact that San Antonio has what it takes to compete with this Minnesota squad. And while this seems like the type of "fool's gold" bet that we usually try to avoid at Dimers, we're just having a hard time not backing a Spurs team that might be a little under appreciated by the oddsmakers right now.

San Antonio actually matches up rather well with Minnesota, as Tre Jones and Devin Vassell make up a highly productive two-way backcourt — capable of disrupting D'Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards — and Jakob Poeltl is a guy that can do the dirty work in a matchup with Rudy Gobert. Keldon Johnson is also another two-way wing that San Antonio has that can cause problems for opponents, and veteran Josh Richardson has been a nice spark off the bench for the Spurs.

It also should be noted that San Antonio is 18-6-1 as a road underdog of 6.5 to 12 points over the last three seasons. We don't expect Gregg Popovich's team to win outright again, but covering this many points feels more likely than not.

UPDATE: Devin Vassell is now out for the Spurs. If you haven't taken this already, we'd suggest passing on it.

BET: Spurs +9.5 (-115) with BetMGM ➡️ here ⬅️.

Miami Heat vs. Portland Trail Blazers, 10:00PM ET

The Blazers are truly due for a loss at this point in the year, as they're 4-0 to start the season and really have no business being undefeated. Meanwhile, they're welcoming a Heat team that is far better than its 1-3 record and will be treating this like a must-win game.

Portland's three-point shooting has been a big reason the team has been winning games, but Miami is actually 22-8 against the spread when facing opponents that make at least 36.0% of their threes since the start of last season. The Heat have also won those games by an average of 6.9 points per game. With that said, we're counting on Miami's struggling defense to look more like the group that was fourth in the league in defensive rating a year ago. It's only a matter of time before that version of the Heat shows up.

This game also seems like a good opportunity for a player like Tyler Herro to get it going, as the Blazers don't defend the perimeter well. We might even see Kyle Lowry play pretty well here.

BET: Heat -2 (-112) with BetMGM ➡️ here ⬅️.
