In our daily picks article yesterday we told you the o8 was a gift and we were right on the money as the Cubs opened up their weekend series in Washington with a 5-4 win over the Nationals. Nothing changes too much tonight with another meeting between two bad defenses and yet another pitcher getting the start who isn't up to MLB standard in Washington's Patrick Corbin (4-16, 7.02 ERA). Keep the overs rolling.

Red Sox vs. Pirates, 7:05PM ET

After a weekend in which they won a home series against their oldest rivals in the Yankees, you'd think that the Red Sox would be locks after a day of rest in a game against the 45-70 Pirates, but it still genuinely feels like anything can happen with this up-and-down Boston team. Nick Pivetta (8-9, 4.51 ERA) is on the mound and in many ways he's a lot like the team in general: sometimes good, sometimes not-so-good. The Sox have lost their last three games where Pivetta has started, giving up a total of 10 runs in 16 innings over that span. While that's good news for Pirates fans, they're not exactly bringing heat to the table themselves with Mitch Keller (4-8, 4.25 ERA) a man who has been tough to get a read on. To his credit, though, his past month has been a lot better than his early season form with a 2.60 ERA over his last three starts. The Pirates keep this one close.

Astros vs. White Sox, 8:10PM ET

A blockbuster pitching duel is on the cards tonight southside of Chicago with Dylan Cease (12-5, 1.96 ERA) going up against Justin Verlander (15-3, 1.85 ERA). The two guys come into this one with some very hot form with only Verlander giving up multiple runs in his last start - the only time that's happened in their last 22 starts combined. The under has to be taken.
