Tuesday MLB Parlay Analysis

Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Yankees, 7:05 PM ET

LEG 1: Anthony Volpe (NYY) to Record a Hit (-125) with DraftKings

A Player to Record a Hit in the Parlay of the Day? I know it sounds crazy, but let me tell you why I am all over Volpe today.

Volpe is the new young sensation the Yankees fans have been looking for. He’s lived up to the hype so far. Volpe currently is only hitting .182 with a .400 OBP. Pitchers keep walking Volpe, but today, he’s getting on base via swinging his bat.

Volpe will face Matt Strahm. Last season, Strahm was used as a reliever, so I am not sure how successful he will be as a member of the Starting Rotation. It’s reasonable to suggest that Strahm won’t last too far into this game, so if Volpe can’t figure him out, he should get to see several other bullpen arms from the Phillies.

Last season, Strahm allowed a .253 BA on the road compared to only .200 at home. There’s a chance Volpe (who bats in the 9 slot) doesn’t even see Strahm.

Either way, the new Yankees sensation will get his plate appearances. I believe pitchers will start giving him more pitches to hit. He’s already proven to be an elite base-stealer, so rather make him earn his way on base instead of giving it to him.

But the best part? The DimersBOT is giving this a 6.2% Edge, which I don’t even think is high enough, but I will take the edges where I can find them!

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Boston Red Sox, 7:10 PM ET

LEG 2: Under 9 Runs (-115) with DraftKings

This is a “trust us” play. In baseball, it actually doesn’t hurt when you double down on your previous day loss because every game is bet in a vacuum, independent of the previous one. Sure, trends are a thing, but trends are meant to be broken.

Right off the bat, we see this over/under line open at 9, which is a half-point lower than the line was yesterday. Regression will come eventually.

Despite the explosion of runs yesterday, we can’t ignore that this Pirates offense was in the bottom tier of runs scored and batting average. The regression starts with their lineup against Nick Pivetta.

2022 wasn’t kind to Nick Pivetta. At home Pivetta had a 4.80 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. 2023 will be a bounceback year for Pivetta. It’s honestly hard for it to be much worse.

Roansy Contreras starts for the Pirates today. We saw mixed results for Roansy in his rookie season last year with a 4.27 ERA and 1.38 WHIP.

Contreras finished 2022 strong on the road. In five out of his last six road starts, he gave up two earned runs or less. Young pitchers are sometimes a mixed-bag, but we have faith Roansy will help cash this under.

New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers, 7:40 PM ET

LEG 3: Brewers +1.5 (-120) with DraftKings

The Brewers are coming off a beatdown of the Mets yesterday, and we think they can ride that momentum into a showdown with Mets ace Max Scherzer. DimersBot agrees with our analysis and finds a 4.8% edge for the Brew Crew on the runline today.

We saw the Brewers’ bats on full display yesterday putting up 10 runs on the board. The encouraging sign was that they were able to get those runs without relying solely on the home run.

Against an ace like Scherzer, Milwaukee will need to have runners on base to provide those early run opportunities. Scherzer did allow a homerun in three out of his last four regular season games last year, and one home run in the 2023 season opener as well.

We know this Milwaukee offense loves capitalizing on missed locations, so don’t rule out covering the run line with the long ball.

Miley gets the start for the Brewers and we believe he should be able to hold down the Mets. Being a lefty, Miley should get some decent lefty-on-lefty matchups against hitters like Nimmo and McNeil.

The Mets offense in 2023 seems a little more streaky than it was in 2022, which could prove beneficial for our first leg.
