ACC Conference Preview

College Football Playoff Participants: Georgia

The ACC is going through a bit of a transitional period, as conference realignment impacts plenty of conferences and the ACC awaits their fate. In the meantime, Clemson has fallen off of the elite level of title contenders, and has opened the door atop the ACC for other contenders to swoop in and steal the crown.
North Carolina's Drake May is back in Carolina blue, Florida State is on the rise, and there's plenty of other teams to like in the middle of the pack. Clemson still lingers at the top, but this could be a season full of surprises in the ACC. Let's dive in to our betting preview:
Contenders: Clemson, Florida State
While our introduction spoke to the strong middle of the pack in the ACC, there are still only two teams at the top of the conference with a >10% chance of winning the league according to DimersBOT: the Tigers and the Seminoles.
The conference still runs through Clemson, who has a 38.6% probability to repeat as SEC champions according to DimersBOT. The Tigers will be hoping for massive steps forward from incumbent quarterback Cade Klubnik, who was good enough to take the raigns midseason last year. Klubnik is an elite talent, but he has yet to put it together on the field and captain a championship team. Junior running back Will Shipley is back alongside him, and there will be no shortage of talent for Clemson - this is the strongest roster in the conference.
The other favorite here is Florida State, who is looking to get back to the top of the ACC for the first time since Jameis Winston was licking his fingers after wins. This could be the year the Seminoles get over the top, as they have gradually improved every season under head coach Mike Norvell up until now, and with quarterback Jordan Travis back under center, the sky is the limit. DimersBOT values Florida State right behind Clemson, with a 33.6% probability of winning the ACC. At +185 odds, this maps with their correct value.
Further down the list of possible contenders you find North Carolina, who is led by the best player in the conference, quarterback Drake Maye. Mack Brown fended off transfer suitors for Maye to keep him in Chapel Hill, and in all likelihood, Maye may be a top-2 pick in next year's NFL draft. Unfortunately, the Tar Heel defense is the problem, which is why DimersBOT only gives Carolina an 8.4% probability to win the ACC. If you're looking for a longshot bet, our model gives Louisville just a 1.3% worse probability than North Carolina to win the conference, and you can get +1300 odds in comparison to UNC's +1000.
