US Open Best Bets: Top Tennis Picks for Wednesday

Karolina Pliskova vs. Aryna Sabalenka - Day session (scheduled for 1:00PM ET)

Sabalenka has the potential to really put a damper on our week, as we lost going against her on Monday and we're now fading her once again. But that's a risk we're willing to take here, as Pliskova is a tough match-up for her.

These two have played four times in the past, with them splitting victories in the series. However, it's Pliskova that has won each of the last two meetings, and the most recent one was a straightforward 6-3, 6-4 win in Montreal last summer. The biggest factor in this match-up is undoubtedly the serve, where Sabalenka has become pretty inconsistent and Pliskova remains one of the best in the world. We think she'll get through a lot of easy service games against Sabalenka, which is something Danielle Collins wasn't able to do on Monday.

In a match in which Pliskova should take at least one set — and can potentially do so rather convincingly if Sabalenka's second-serve yips manifest themselves — taking the game spread just seems like the smart move. All in all, it wouldn't be that surprising if Pliskova won outright, but we're taking the safer play.

PICK: Pliskova +2.5 Games, which you can get at -125 with DraftKings

Frances Tiafoe vs. Andrey Rublev - Day session (scheduled for 2:00PM ET) - LATE ADD

This wasn't in here at the time of publishing, but we're throwing Tiafoe on the card for today. The American is full of confidence after having defeated Rafael Nadal in his last match, and he knows that if he just plays his game then he can take care of Rublev. He actually beat him in five sets when they met at last year's US Open, and the crowd support this year will be a whole other level after he truly put himself on the map the other day.

It's just hard not to take this with Tiafoe sitting there at plus-money at the moment.

PICK: Tiafoe To Win, which you can get at +105 with DraftKings

Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz - Night session (scheduled for 8:00PM ET)

This match is a weird one to handicap because both players are coming off of lengthy five-set battles on Monday night, with Alcaraz having actually been out on the court and going through the post-match interview process until around 3:00AM ET. With that in mind, it's entirely possible that we won't see either one of these players at their very peaks in this one.

The thing about this match is that it's just hard not to roll with Alcaraz and his next-level talent when the spread is this low and the odds are this reasonable. Sinner actually beat up on Alcaraz the last time they played, but that was during a stretch in which the Spaniard wasn't playing his best tennis. It also happened to be a clay-court match in Umag, and an argument can be made that Alcaraz isn't nearly as good on clay as he is on hard courts.

Alcaraz earned a 7-6 (1), 7-5 win over Sinner in their only hard-court meeting, which was in Paris at the end of last year. We're expecting to see the 19-year-old rise to the occasion in this one, and the fact that he has revenge on his mind will only help. Alcaraz is one of the most competitive players on tour and he will be looking to prove that he is the best youngster — and possibly player — on the planet.

It also doesn't hurt that Sinner's performance last round was a lot more concerning than Alcaraz's was. Whereas the Spaniard needed five sets to beat former US Open champion Marin Cilic, the Italian was barely able to get by world No. 73 Ilya Ivashka. If Sinner doesn't level up here, Alcaraz will wipe the floor with him.

PICK: Alcaraz -2.5 Games, which you can get at -120 with DraftKings
