Giants vs. Commanders: NFL Predictions for Sunday Night Football on December 18, 2022
The Washington Commanders and New York Giants couldn’t have started the season any different. New York opened 7-2, while Washington dropped four of its first five. Things have changed quite a bit since. Both teams have playoff aspirations and the two played to a 20-20 deadlock at MetLife Stadium two weeks ago. The last time the Commanders were on prime time, they were busy taking down the previously unbeaten Eagles in a masterful performance in Week 10 that saw Washington possess the ball for better than 40 minutes. Now, they'll hope for another good performance at FedExField at 8:20PM ET on Sunday, December 18.

Giants vs. Commanders Odds and Betting Lines
Will The Giants Cover The Spread?
Daniel Jones played well in the tie with the exception of a lost fumble. Jones completed 15 of his first 16 passes and finished 25-for-31 for 200 yards and a score and also rushed for 71 yards on 12 carries.
The Giants, 1-4-1 in their last six with the lone victory over the worst team in football, need to do a much better job on third-down conversions after going 4-for-13 two weeks ago.
Another important angle for the visitors is defending Terry McLaurin, who had eight catches for 105 yards and a touchdown — just his third trip to the end zone in 2022.
Will The Commanders Cover The Spread?
Washington is 6-1-1 in its last eight games and outgained New York by a 411-316 margin in the first meeting.
“It's very weird,” said Commanders QB Taylor Heinicke, who completed 27 of 41 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. “'It feels like a loss, but it doesn't count as one. That's the only positive from this game.”
Why The Over Will Hit
Both teams had a tough time sustaining drives in the first meeting, particularly in overtime. In addition to the Giants’ aforementioned struggles on third down, the Commanders were no better keeping the opposing defense on the field going 3 for 14. It’s unlikely such a low combined percentage will repeat itself in the rematch.
Washington’s running game has reached another level since the return of rookie Brian Robinson Jr., who has paired with Antonio Gibson to form something of a thunder-and-lightning tandem. Robinson Jr. was the bell cow in Week 13 with 96 yards and it would be no surprise if he finds the end zone this week.
Why The Under Will Hit
Both defenses won the battles in the trenches in Week 13 and could do so again. The Giants recorded five sacks; the Commanders dumped Jones four times.
Washington’s unit has the benefit of a week off and comes out of its bye ranked No. 7 in the league in total defense, yielding 310.6 yards per game. New York is No. 23 in total offense.
Giants vs. Commanders Prediction
Lean: Giants +4.5
No team in NFL history has ever had two ties in the same season since overtime was introduced. There’s not much separating these two teams and it’ll likely come down to another field goal try in crunch time.
